2011 upside down topsy turvy year

Apologies for being so lax with blogging. Yes, I am lazy, but I am moving address (again!) looking after wounded hubbie who has a fractured wrist and being woken up by a demanding ragdoll. I do not know what causes the most stress!!
Anyhow, once I am settled (and I mean settled) I will blog more frequently, write more and (always) welcome your feedback. It was a thrill to hear my short story (BAD HABITS) read out on CD by a lovely male english voice, and being short listed in the competition.
Look out for more stunning work by Deborah Louise Robinson who, with her partner Pamela Glasner are presenting their first production in Los Angeles this week, "Last Will and Embezzlement" a documentary starring Mickey Rooney about the mental and financial corruption effecting our senior community. Deborah is the talented lady whom adapted my book to script.
In the meantime, let's all look forward to the upcoming silly season. Hopefully, the floods that are expected in Brisvegas will be non-existant.

HAPPINESS

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then, we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.
We tell outselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.
The truth is, there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when?
Your life will always be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D Souza. He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - REAL LIFE. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then, life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with...and remember that time waits for no one. Stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lost ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, untilyour kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday, night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until you song comes on, until you've had a drink, until you've sobered up, until you die -- to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey today. Start with a smile...Now get you and dance!

Sequel

I have thrashed out the sequel. Though it was written at the same time as OBF, many changes/ehancements have been made. It is at present 1028 pages long (ouch!)but I will not split it like I has to with OBF. Besides the 3rd sequel is the next I need to work on...at some stage.
The sequel has a working title of "Sword of Sorrows" and picks up from where we left Leah. It answers a few questions but the journey is still only beginning. New enemies, friends and twists will keep you guessing. And the 'ending' will really get you riled up. Hee hee.

reply to a query regarding obtaining an agent....

I am a published writer and unless your book is mainstream and commercial...i.e attracting $$$ then you will never stand out. Not being pessimistic, just looking from an agents/marketer/distributor's POV. It is so damn hard getting your story...in your voice...out there! Marketing is extremely challenging and expensive, especially if you are new, or do not know the right contacts. May have more luck promoting it in the 7th dimension:) Having a unique hook to reel them in helps, and blogging until your eyeballs bleed is another way.
Most people that that have read my book; Odyssey Bourne Force have a love/hate relationship with the ending as they have travelled the journey with all my characters and did not expect the end of part one. Sorry...I think;)
So, I took the next step and now have a feature movie script. Can't wait to hear (one day) if people prefer the book or the movie...the movie, or the book. What about the sequel...OMG! Exciting times we live in eh! As a friend has said....if dreams weren't free, I'd be bankrupt now.

Deb! How could you do this to me!!??

As you may have gathered I have just finished the book, and of course, I use the word 'finished' loosely! Oh my God, I can't wait for the second book.

Tomorrow I start reading it through again and making notes of the most important plot points and characters, ones which cannot be missed from the film -- and then I start the challenge of fitting this stunning 500+ page book into a 90-120 page screenplay! I'm actually really looking forward to it...I can already imagine people's desperation for the sequel (how's that coming along by the way?)

What do a covert, non-existent exploration team, insidious alien invaders, and an indestructible monolithic stone door have in common? Find out in Debbie Renner’s fast paced debut novel Odyssey Bourne Force.

Odyssey Bourne Force is a sci-fi package that opens up the universe through a doorway. Focusing on and elite team of experienced "off worlders" and one confused 40 year old woman, the book has many similarities to a well known tv show.

The author's language is a little tough to adjust to at the beginning, but once you get past the gadgetry and historical background, you can appreciate the humor she has written into the tale.

Debbie Renner has done a terrific job characterizing Kate, the 40 year old, divorced, introvert who's apparently linked to an ancient queen, while also trying to save Earth.

The story that ensues mostly melds much of the sci-fi genre to date, but is fun nevertheless.

Unfortunately there is only so much one can write that hasn't been done before, and if there wasn't as many pronounced similarities to that well known movie/tv show (of which I'm quite a fan), it could otherwise have been a great book.

If you can get beyond seeing the images of the cast of a different story in your mind, while reading this one, you may find it a very satisfying read.

The first in a planned trilogy, Debbie Renner is just hitting her stride and presumably will create future stories with her own autonomy.

The first draft is almost complete and I should be seeing it shortly. I always wrote the story visually, so adapting it for the silver screen is simply the 'next step.'
I know the 'end' of the first instalment will piss off a lot of folks...heh heh.

I personally beleive he was used by the Monarchy to cover up their dirty laundry (as portrayed in Johnny Depp's move version). However, I would like to hear other versions too....

Roswell -fact or fiction

I was half asleep watching the brain dead box when I came across a Discovery doco regarding Hitler and the end of World War II. Can't remember the name but it altered my belief regarding aliens crashing to Earth at Roswell.
According to the doco, when the Americans cleaned up, they took with them thousands of top German scientists and spread them over the US at the different airforce bases (whitesands, Area 51, etc). Apparently the scientists were given the choice of a trial at Numerburg or come and work for Uncle Sam. Some were also sent to European countries as well. Suddenly in the early 1950's people began sighting UFO's, in particular around these bases where the scientists were working. Someone had spotted a UFO that resembled the infamous German 'bell.'
I ask you- would it be more feasible for the US airforce to start a conspiracy that alien's crashed near Roswell, then deny it and produce a pathetic weather balloon, and just filter through some 'evidence' of little wide eyed aliens. That would make the public naturally think the military were up to something by trying to hide visitors from space. In reality, due to the highly volatile political situation, i.e fresh out of WWII and German scientists on American soil! That situation would have to be kept top secret or the US governtment would have a bit of explaining to do and need ANOTHER manufactured conspiracy to help them cover that up. Oh the truth is out there...Mulder...where are you!

Either the scientists from Germany were way ahead of the Westerners, or perhaps Hitler had an alien encounter. What would have happened if he had won the war....
